Museum Layout

 Today I have another travel layout. This one is from a museum visit. 

 

Scrapping a museum always seems a bit weird to me. I want to have enough photos to spark my memory, but photos of things I saw at a museum aren't always top on my list of things to look at. This layout was made even more tricky, as it was actually my husband who went to the museum when we were on vacation in Germany. He really liked the exhibit, and I wanted to include that memory in our Germany album. 

 I've been trying to use up my (very large) stash of scrapbooking paper. This paper is from an older Authentique collection called Quest. I thought the vintage industrial vibe of the collection went well with the theme of the exhibit (German technology through the ages). I was pretty excited to use some gear embellishments I had in my stash, too!

Star Scrapbooking Layout

It's June, which means there's a new kit over at the Scrapbooking Store. I'll be sharing a few layouts over on their social media this month, but I wanted to keep this one for my blog. To introduce you to this month's kit I have a Star Scrapbooking Layout.

June's kit features papers from 2 different Authentique collections. The collections have a patriotic and nautical feel. The base kit includes 12 patterned papers and a full size matching sticker sheet.

For the embellishments on this layout, I used stickers from the base kit and die cuts and foil stars from the upgrade kit. There are glitter Thicker Stickers included in the upgrade kit as well that I didn't use on this layout.

First Day of Middle School Layout

Scrapbooking Store's September kit is out and it is perfect for scrapping those back to school photos. So far, I've created 3 different layouts. Two of which you'll have to check out on the Scrapbooking Store's social media accounts, and the third I'm here to share today with this first day of middle school layout.

I'm loving the rich colors in this kit. The colors are a little deeper than bold primaries, so the look is great for older kids and first day of school layouts that want to be a bit more sophisticated. 

The big deal with middle school (besides being in a new part of the school) is that they get lockers with a lock on them. There always seems to be a bit of a learning curve with this, and it seems to be the thing the kids worry the most about. I thought it would be fun to use one of the locker chipboard stickers from the Upgrade to September's kit to add that as an embellishment on the layout. P.S. He's mastered his locker no problem.

Thanks to the Scrapbooking Store's September kit, this may just be the fastest I've gotten my kiddos' first day of school photos scrapped!

Scrapbooking Store November Kit Layout

I'm back with another Scrapbooking Store November kit layout. It really is just a gorgeous kit, and so easy to create with.

I had to use that multi-color tiny leaf print. I love an all over tiny print. So pretty!

There are some really lovely stickers included in the kit and the upgraded kit. They're perfect for layering. We go to the same pumpkin patch every year for pumpkins, so I opted for lots of word stickers instead of traditional journaling.

Scrapbooking Store Autumn Layout

It's time for November's kit from the Scrapbooking Store! I so look forward to getting this kit every month. Today I have a Scrapbooking store autumn layout to share.

Every year we head to the corn maze by our house and have a fun family outing. I just knew this kit was going to be perfect for our family corn maze photo.

The kit features papers from Authentique Pleasant. There are some lovely patterned papers, but my favorite thing about the kit are the thick printed card stock like papers. Green, kraft, brown, and vanilla are all included in the kit. One side has a subtle polka dot print and the other a subtle stripe.

The upgrade kit includes some lovely lace in shades of orange, and lots of fun coordinating stickers (you know I love my coordinating stickers). This might just be my favorite Scrapbooking Store kit yet!

Car Layout

Today I have a car layout to share. We did lots of driving while we were in Ireland, so I decided the card deserved it's own layout. My husband is 6'3", so we had a few good laughs over him driving the tiny car!

When Authentique's Durable came into A Walk Down Memory Lane, I instantly fell in love with the mix of soft grays, kraft browns, and pretty blues, but I didn't have anything to use it for. When I decided to make a layout about our rental car, I didn't have to think twice about what paper I wanted to use.

I never seem to have enough journaling cards/tags/pretty things to write on. For this layout, I created my own journaling tag from some of the paper from the collection and a cluster of embellishments. 

I really like to save memorabilia when scrapping travel layouts. For this layout, I created a pocket behind one of the photos to slip the Touring Map of Ireland got with the car. 

To make sure there was enough room for the pocket to expand, I popped the middle photo up with some foam adhesive.

How do you like to make space for memorabilia on your layouts?

St. Patty's Day

We usually have lots and lots of kid friendly fun on St. Patty's Day at our house. I'm usually so busy cooking and playing with the kids that I forget to take any photos of what we're doing. This year I at least remembered to take a few photos, and then I could scrap the photos and journal about the things I didn't photograph.

Authentique has a pretty fun Irish/St. Patty's Day themed collection called Lucky. Since my pictures weren't all that great, I made them into a photo collage, so you look at the photos as a group instead of putting too much focus on any one photo.

Adding embellishments to the photos helps pretty up the photos a bit, too. Since the kids are showing off the loot from their leprechaun hunt in their photos, the sticker works well!

Do you do anything special for St. Patty's day. Are you good about taking pictures, or are you like me and tend to get busy and forget?

Scrapping from the Archives

I didn't start scrapbooking until a few years ago, so once in a while a break out an old photo of my kids or even myself to scrap. Authentique's Renew collection seemed perfect for one of these trips back in time.

Yup, that photo's nearly 10 year's old now, but it's a great photo to have scrapped for those trips down memory lane, and the soft colors of Renew seemed just right, plus those paper frames were really fun to layer up!

Folder Mini Album

I really like making mini albums. However, I don't like making them out of the same old things all the time, so I'm always thinking about how I can turn something into a mini album.  Enter these cool mini file folders from Authentique:

I saw them and thought, "Hey I could turn those into a cool mini album!".  I layered them up and used a bit of twine to bind them together, and ta-da! a mini album was created. I didn't think to take any pictures during the book binding process, but it was really easy. If you're interested in trying binding something like this, just search "book binding" on the web, and you'll find lots of great tutorials on different ways to do it (or feel free to shoot me an e-mail, and I'll do my best to explain what I did). Here are a few of my favorite pages from the album:

I grabbed a number of pieces of paper and a bunch of the embellishments from the Authentique Renew Collection, which made this album come together quite cohesively.

Last Day of School

On the last day of school, I always take a picture of my kids with their teacher for that year. However, I wait to scrap the photo until the beginning of the next school year when all the fun new school lines come out. I made this layout about a month and a half ago, but I kept forgetting to photograph it.

I used Authentique's Curiosity Collection. I was drawn to this collection, because the colors are a little different than the "normal" school line.

Genuine Mini Album

I wanted to share a mini album I created using Genuine from Authentique.

This is the outside of the album (yes, I do know sonowmobile is spelled with an “e”. At some point before I photographed it, the “e” fell off!). Closed, the album measures 4" x 6" with a 1/4" spine on each side. 

These are a few shots of the inside. This is basically an accordion style album that gets adhered inside a card stock cover.  I promise to do a video tutorial on how I put this together soon. Basic Grey has magnetic snaps which I used (cleverly hidden under stickers) to keep the album closed.  This album went together really quickly. I just pulled a few pieces of Genuine paper, and added accents with the Genuine sticker sheets.

Teal and Orange Party Decorations

 This month, Glue Dots® challenged its designers to create teal and orange party decorations. I happen to have Christmas on the brain, so mine are geared toward a teal and orange Christmas party. However I'll explain simple ways to change up the decorations to make them fit for other party situation, too. I have 2 ideas today. First up is a fun centerpiece:

I chose to make mine look like a Christmas ornament, but you could just as easily make yours look like a pumpkin, apple, or even switch out the shape for a star. My finished piece is just about 6" x 6". If you'd like to make one about the same size you'll need:
 

Ultra Thin or Craft Glue Dots®
A way to cut circles (or any other symmetrical shape). I used the Lifestyle Crafts nesting circle cutting dies.
3 - 12" x 12" pieces of paper (I used Authentique Gathering Grow and Together and Little Yellow Bicycle Hellow Fall Bundle-up Blue)
A scoring tool
A topper for your centerpiece (I used Fiskar's Scalloped Sentiments border punch to create an ornament topper).

Cut 12 circles and score them down the middle.

Attach the wrong sides of the circles together from the score line to the curved edge with Ultra Thin or Craft Glue Dots®. Repeat until you have a 12 adhered into a circle.

I cut the bottom of my circle off slightly to create a flat base instead of a rounded edge. Add your topper (ornament topper for an ornament, stem and leaves if you're making an apple or pumpkin).

For my second project I decided to make something that can be hung from a light or the ceiling. Make a dozen or so of these to really add ambiance to your party:

 For this project you'll need
Mini Glue Dots®
18" of orange ribbon per decoration
1 Teal pearl (If you don't have teal pearls, use a white one and color it teal with a Copic Marker)
Glitter paper (I used American Crafts Pow! Glitter Paper)
String to hang your piece from when you've finished.

 Cut your 18" ribbon into 3 - 6" pieces of ribbon. Form a loop with each piece. Adhere together using a Mini Glue Dot®

 Form each loop into an 8 shape by placing a Mini Glue Dot® in the center and pinching together.

 Layer all 3 loops on top of each other, adhering with mini glue dots.

Cut a shape from glitter paper for the center of your ornament. Depending on your theme, you can pick appropriate shapes: hearts for a wedding or baby shower, snowflake for a winter party, flowers for a spring party. Attach the glitter shape to the center of your ornament with a Mini Glue Dot®

 Add a teal pearl to the center of your glitter paper using a Mini Glue Dot. Add string and hang! My boys and I are going to add string and use a snowflake shape in the center and hand them out as Christmas ornaments to our family this year.

Scrap Room Decor

Sometimes I get an idea in my head and I just have to put down whatever I'm working on to make what's in my head. This time I had an idea for a piece to put on my craft room wall.


The frame is for an 8" x 10" photo. I used Authentique's Splendid Collection to create the background. These are actually leftover pieces I had from making some Authentique layouts a week ago. I stitched the pieces together with my We R Memory Keepers Sew Easy tool. The camera is a Print & Cut file from Silhouette. I sponged a little Tim Holtz Brushed Corduroy Distress Ink onto the edges of the camera to give it a more weathered feel. I attached the camera with foam dimensional adhesive to add some depth to the picture. The canvas flower is from Maya Road. I created the lace flower from some vintage lace I happened to have lying around. The paper flower was made with about a 1/2" x 8" strip of paper. I printed the saying, "Every picture has a story to tell." and added it to the picture.

Now all I need to do is get my husband to hang it!

Authentique Layouts

I have 2 layouts I would like to share today. I have so much I want to say about them, so I'll try not to jump around too much, but I'm not making any promises. First let me say, the second I saw Authentique's lines, I knew I had to have them. On the up side, A Walk Down Memory Lane ordered them right away. On the down side, I think the owner, Lisa, is enabling my paper addiction :-) If you haven't laid eyes or hands on this paper yet, let me tell you, you're going to love the look AND feel of this paper. The texture is nice and thick (think My Mind's Eye). I bought 2 of the lines and have them stashed for use on my Italy scrapbook (when I get as far as my Rome photos). However I had to buy some to use right away, and since I hadn't picked up any of the Splendid line, I grabbed that.
Okay, now to actually show you a layout:This line is really a "Jack of all trades". It lends itself nicely to distressing, and this rough style of layout, but it would be just as lovely used on a pretty, frilly layout or card as well. Kind of fun to think of all the possibilities.
I feel like this layout is really "me". I'm sort of in love with using photo collages lately. I tend to scrap with layers, and like to mix and match lots of patterned papers. I tried to make the journaling stand out a bit by adding word stickers into it. I like the effect, and it was kind of fun to do, too. I should mention the photos were all taken at the beginning of July when my boys, my husband, and I went for a ride on my grandparents' golf carts. Such great memories!


After I finished the above layout, I had another golf layout to do. I decided I would step (way, way) outside my comfort zone and try some different things on my layout. I'm not sure I love it, but I like it well enough, and I figure you'll never grow if you don't try. So, here it is:

It's definitely a bit grungier and more free form than what I usually do. I did do a fair bit of hand stitching to ground the different elements and tie them together. One of my favorite things about this layout is where I ripped it out to reveal a different paper underneath. It was a little scary to rip up my layout, but it was fun too. One other note: don't be afraid to change pre-made titles and stickers to say what you want them to say. For example, the strip beneath the center photo says, "a wonderful moment". Originally it said, "a majestic moment". While I liked that saying, it didn't really work for this layout, so I used a word sticker to change it. To make it look intentional, I added other similar word stickers to the layout in other places.
