Farm Life

Cutesy isn't usually a word I'd use to describe my scrapping, but once in a while, I like to dabble in the super cute. I live in farm country, my in-laws have animals on their farm, and Best Creation's ridiculously adorable Farm Life collection called to me.

...and some of the papers are even glittery! Adorable, right? What's a girl to do except make an equally cute mini album from it.

I decided to make an accordion album.  It's been a while since I've made one in this style and they're so versatile. You can make them just about any size or shape you chose. This one measures 4" x 4".   To make it just a little different, I rounded 2 of the corners.

Due to the length of the album, these photos post a little small, but you can click on the photo to see a full screen version of the picture.  I like that accordian albums are really easy to display. They stand up on their own, and you can fill both sides with photos.

I used some dimensional stickers from Reminisce at the Farm collection that I thought went well with the Best Creations paper.

I also added in some random embellishments (like Little Yellow Bicycle Naturals, enamel dots, ribbon, word stickers, and buttons).

The Positive Tattle Tale Board

At the beginning of April, I did a little guest spot for We R Memory Keepers. In case you didn't see it, I wanted to post the project here, along with a few extra detail pictures.

I used papers and embellishments from We R Memory Keeper's For the Record Collection to create a frame for my living room. I left the glass on this frame so it can be used as a dry erase board.

Now before I go any further, let me tell you, I have a kindergartener and a preschooler at home. The tattling was driving me crazy! I know it's just their age, but I'm trying to change the dialogue, so instead of negative tattling, we use this board for positive tattling. Since I'm a paper crafter and this collection from We R is so cool, I made it pretty and useful.

I added some fun embellishments and some hand stitching with the help of the We R Sew Easy tool.

...and you know what? The board is actually working! Well, at least most of the time.

Family Time at School

We always have a few family events at school...I always like scrapping them :)

My youngest couldn't wait for his chance at Doughnuts for Dad. His older brother got to bring Dad to school for it, and now it was his turn:

I happened to have some leftover October Afternoon Woodland Park paper that I mixed with stickers from Simple Stories 24/7 Collection.

Just a few nights ago we had a family night at school, and my older boy's teacher had these "Kindergarten Favorites" photos of each kid.

Love this photo so much, and I had just picked up Fancy Pants Swagger. What do you know? It was PERFECT for scrapping this photo. Ooh, and that burlap heart? It came from Little Yellow Bicycle's new Naturals Collection.  The collection is full of cork, canvas, and burlap accessories that go so well on so very many projects.

Busy Builders and Memorabilia Pockets

This past weekend my boys went to one of those free kids workshops at Home Depot where they get to build something. Not only did they build and paint bird feeders, they had a lot of fun doing it. Thanks to Basic Grey (who just happened to make the perfect  paper for scrapping these photos called Bow Ties), I was able to print the photos out and get them on to a layout the very same weekend.  That almost never happens!

Sometimes there are little mementos I like to keep that don't lend themselves well to actually adhering to the scrapbook page.  When that happens, I like to make little pockets on the layout (usually behind a photo) to put the memento in.  Here I added the directions for the birdhouse in a pocket behind the far left photo. I adhered a chipboard arrow to the directions to make them easier to pull out (and so I don't forget they're there).

I also used some stickers from Echo Park All About a Boy collection. The colors blend really well with Basic Grey's

I'm pretty sure I had almost as much fun scrapping these photos as they had making their bird feeders!

We R Memory Keepers

I'm pretty excited to have a guest design spot over on We R Memory Keeper's Facebook page today! They sent me paper, stickers, and tags from their For the Record collection. Let me tell you, this collection is my idea of gorgeous, so i've been having a blast creating with it. I made a little home decor project that you'll have to check out over on We R's Facebook Page. Then I used what I had left (which was quite a bit) to create a layout.

For the Record mixes blues and greens with grays and browns for a really amazing, easy to use color palette. Of course, having 2 boys, I have plenty of use for lines that focus on blues and greens.

I also really like that the stickers included in this collection have an embossed texture to them. It adds a lot of added dimension to any project you make with them.  Just a reminder that you don't have to use the entire sticker. There was a large yellow scallop border sticker, and I cut it into pieces to attach all over the page instead of using it as a traditional border strip. Also, in the picture below you'll see the words "Today I am".  That sticker was part of a much larger sticker that just didn't work with the area I wanted to put it, so I trimmed just the words out so it would work.

Finally, I can't do a post about We R Memory Keepers without mentioning one of my all time favorite tools: The Sew Easy. It makes hand stitching so much easier, by per-piercing your holes quickly.  Here I used the Sew Easy with the Zig Zag Head attached to do all of my stitching.

Scrapping from the Archives

I didn't start scrapbooking until a few years ago, so once in a while a break out an old photo of my kids or even myself to scrap. Authentique's Renew collection seemed perfect for one of these trips back in time.

Yup, that photo's nearly 10 year's old now, but it's a great photo to have scrapped for those trips down memory lane, and the soft colors of Renew seemed just right, plus those paper frames were really fun to layer up!
