Beautiful Girl Tiny Dancer Layout

I hope you're having a fun time checking out all of Moxxie's Winter 2015 new releases and some of the fun inspiration projects using them.  For the hop I created a Beautiful Girl Tiny Dancer Layout.

I know this is a dance themed collection, but when I saw it all I could think was how perfect it would for scrapping my newest little niece in the Mickey hat I knit for her.

All those pretty pinks and greys just begged to be used on this sweet little girl's newborn photo. There are even plenty of stickers that work with my non-dance themed layout.

It's probably good that I don't have a little girl of my own to scrap...I think I could go crazy adding frilly, pleated ribbon.

Thanks for stopping by to check out how I used Tiny Dancer.  I hope you're enjoying all of the new collections.  Check out all of the blogs on the hop to increase your chances of winning this month's blog hop prize. Valentine Banner - Linen and Paper Hearts

I saw these fun little linen hearts from Maya Road, and decided I just had to pair them with Pebbles' Yours Truly to make a Valentine banner of linen and paper hearts.

I used my Silhouette to cut 2 paper hearts that matched the size of the linen hearts.

I used a little bit of everything from Yours Truly to embellish the banner: paper, stickers, layered stickers, even journaling cards. I also used some washi tape and sequins for good measure.

I used Glue Dots® for my primary adhesive on this banner.  They were especially useful for sticking paper to fabric.

I finished up by stringing the whole thing up with some red baker's twine.  This cheery little banner happens to have found a home hanging up on the banister in my living room.

Easter Frame

Believe it or not, Easter is not that far off. I'm trying to add a little more seasonal decor to my home, so  I made this:

My favorite details are these little lilies made from Maya Road zipper trim.

My original goal was to create an Easter lily from sipper trim, but I just couldn't get it to look quite right, so I created this Lily which, I think, looks a bit more like a calla lily.

If you'd like to try making the zipper lily for yourself, here's a little photo tutorial on how I did it.

Cut a 3" strip of zipper trim. Work with the zipper part facing up.

Place a craft Glue Dot® about 1/4" from the middle on both the left and right sides.
With the zipper lying horizontally, fold both edges down from the center, so the ends are now pointed vertically. Cut the right hand tail of the zipper at an angle.

Wrap the right hand tail up into the left hand tail. Add another Craft Glue Dot® to the left hand tail as you wrap it up and around the right hand tail. Tack the end of the left hand tail down on the back side of the lily with another Craft Glue Dot®.

Create the center of the lily by wrapping a Craft Glue Dot® around a stick pin. then wrap about a 3/4" piece of yellow ribbon around the pin. Stick the ribbon wrapped pin into the center of your flower.

Once you get started, these zipper lilies are really easy and fun to make. In fact, I made 4 before deciding I was just going to use 2 on my frame.

The Good Life

I waited (not so patiently) for The Good Life from Fancy Pants to come out.  When I saw the reveal of it, I fell in love and knew I just had to have it. I picked it up immediately from A Walk Down Memory Lane when it came out.  Then it sat, waiting for me to use it as I got busy with other things. Finally! I got to use it, and this line is as amazing as I remember, and so easy to work with.

I especially love this cherry pleated trim from Maya Road.  While pleated ribbon is often a bit more of a girly thing, this ribbon has an unfinished edge and is just rough enough for a boy layout, too!

A Felt Wreath and a Christmas Card Photo

I feel like I've been posting a lot of projects here lately, so later this week I promise to post a few layouts. I'm a bit behind of photographing them, but I have a stack. I'll also post a few of the cards we'll be making at the class I'm teaching on Saturday at my Local Scrap Store (if you're in the NW Iowa area, you can still sign up by calling A Walk Down Memory Lane at 712-476-3443). Today, though, I have 2 more projects.

First up, I just got done taking the photo for my Christmas card this year.

I created the frame by finding an 11 x 13 frame that I liked (and got on sale for $5!). Then I covered the glass with chalkboard vinyl. I got it at A Walk Down Memory Lane for $1.99/yard, so for $9 I had the frame all made. Plus, I can always use the frame for something else in the future. I decided to make the frame a little more festive by adding a felt poinsettia to it. I just pieced together some Stamp School felt I cut with this die to make it. Oh, and here's my tip of the day, if you don't have the best handwriting (which I don't) ask a friend who has beautiful handwriting to do it for you!

The other project I have today is this wreath:

I needed something to hang on my front door when it wasn't a holiday, so I jumped on the yarn wreath bandwagon.

I post this with the disclaimer that there are literally thousands of these wreaths out there in the crafty world, so if this resembles one you've seen, and I didn't credit that person, my apologies. I just started wrapping and cutting, and this is what I came up with.
I had a skein of this pretty cream yarn left over from a knitting project, so I started with that as a base. Then I pulled all of the Stamp School felt I own and held it up to my door, and went from there. I decided to go with 1 big flower instead of  lots of little ones.

I used the same leaf die that I used above to cut the leaves. I used a large scallop circle die to cut the purple part of the flower, but went back with my scissors and squared out the edges and cut the petals down almost to the center. I finished of the flower by adding a couple of Maya Road stick pins into the center of the flower.

Merry Christmas Banner

Are you thinking about your projects for Christmas yet? I've been starting to pick up the papers and collections that I like, and in the process needed to clear out last year's papers. I decided to finish off the last of last year's papers by making a Merry banner for my hallway (although, I hung it on my front door to take a photo of it, and it sure looks pretty there too!).

To give the banner a different shape, I cut 5 banner pieces with a Spellbinders Nestabilities Label Die from leftover Echo Park Season's Greetings paper. Then I used Pop Up Glue Dots® to attach Maya Road Snowflake Transparencies to the banner. Glue Dots® work really well for attaching clear and acrylic embellishments because they hold firmly and are almost invisible under the clear embellishment.

I strategically placed my alphabet stickers directly over where I put my Glue Dot® to camouflage it even further.

After I finished adding the snowflakes and  "merry" letters to my banner, I went in and embellished each piece with rhinestones, ribbon, buttons, and left over stickers from Echo Park's Season's Greetings and Crate Paper's Pepermint Collection (also left over from last year's stash).

Finally I added strips of really wide ribbon behind each banner piece with Ultra Thin Glue Dots®. I like that this ribbon treatment is a little different than the normal banner style where the ribbon comes out the sides and connects each banner piece.

The best part is, this banner came together really quickly. Since I was working with leftovers, I couldn't over think the project, and it still turned out well.

For The Record 2

We had photos taken this summer with my husband's side of the family. About the same time the sneak peeks came out for Echo Park's For The Record 2 collection.  I knew I was going to do a photo collage with For The Record 2. It's truly perfect for that. Of course, I scooped up the collection pack right away and the chipboard stickers.

...and a few close-ups

After finishing my photo collage I had plenty of paper and embellishments left over, so I created a layout too...and I still have enough left over to create more!

Summer Fresh

You know how sometimes you see a new line and you just know that you can do pretty things with it, that it's going to be so much fun to work with, that you won't be able to get enough of it? Yeah, that's me with Simple Stories Summer Fresh. I really, truly just love this line.So far, I've made a 2 page layout, a single page layout, and banner. Today I'll share the layouts. You'll have to come back next week for the banner.
First up is the single page layout:

My favorite thing about this layout is the little cluster of details found here:

That little calendar piece with the twine and the pin and the rhinestone added to it just make me happy. I know, it's the little things, right?

Now on to the 2 page layout. I actually made this layout first. I was waiting for Summer Fresh to come out so that I could scrap these photos from Easter. Sometimes, I really like a paper line, but when I start to work with it I struggle and I just can't seem to put it together right. Summer Fresh is the exact opposite of that for me...it mixes and matches beautifully and I can't seem to get enough of it.

Okay, I know that picture's a bit tiny, so here are individual shots of the left side:

and right side:

In case you're wondering what we're doing, here's a close up on the journaling about Magic Jelly Beans (please note this is not my original idea, I read about it somewhere, and I really don't know where otherwise I'd absolutely give that person the credit for coming up with such a fun idea).

And, finally, I have to share one last photo of my favorite detail from this layout:

This bit of burlap with the twine and button is the last thing I added to the layout, and it just just made the whole thing feel complete.

Thanks for stopping by today. I'm quite behind on keeping up with blogging the current projects I have completed, but I'm trying to do better...really I am! In the mean time, I've been busy over at Stamp School,

so you can find a bright and cheery card with a Gelato video tutorial done by yours truly here.

You can find a a wedding card I created with a matching envelope here.

and you can find one last video tutorial on making this inky embossed background here.

Have a great weekend!

End of School Year Gifts Part 1

Hello! I have an end of school year gift to share today, and I'll be back tomorrow with a second one. My son's last day of school is Wednesday, but his school has a classroom grandparent program, and his classroom grandma's last day of school is today. I wanted to give her a little something to thank her for all her time, so today I took in these (one for the classroom grandma, one for the wonderful aide who holds open the school door and greets all the children in the morning, and one for the school office admin):

Inside each of these hand made bags is a fresh baked loaf of bread. Here's the truth: I'm not a very good sewer. I learned a long time ago how to sew, and I just don't do it very much. However, I found this awesome tutorial on making bread bags from dish towels, and I knew that even I could sew this pattern. I love baking bread, so that part wasn't a problem. Last week I found some lovely towels at Target and spent an afternoon cutting and sewing. I was pretty pleased with myself when I finished them. The best part is, after giving 3 away, I still have 3 more bags to put away for the next time I need a fun hand made gift.

When  you sew the bags, you sew a bit of ribbon into the seam for tying the bag shut. I just happen to have a lot of fun ribbon from May Arts, so I just raided my stash and found a number of different ones that worked with the colors of the bags.

Just because I would feel completely out of my element if I didn't add something paper crafted, I also made little thank you tags from Echo Park paper, SRM stickers, and Maya Road Flowers. I tied the tags on with a bit of twisted burlap from May Arts Ribbon.

Thanks for stopping by today! I'll be back tomorrow with another teacher gift idea, and a short tutorial.
