Marbled Die Cut

Last week I shared a tutorial on how to make a marbled background with Yupo paper and Copic markers. Today I wanted to show that you can also die cut the marbled paper and make pretty marbled die cuts from Yupo paper as well.

I created the simple marbling with 3 Copic Markers on Yupo paper. Then I ran it through my Evolution Advanced Diecut machine. I find it's best to use a metal shim plate with the Yupo paper. Since it's a plastic paper you get a cleaner cut if you use a metal shim to cut against.

I used my die cut as the centerpiece for my card, since the marbling is just so pretty. I added a stamped sentiment from Altenew's Halftone Happy set. I added a little extra interest by scoring a frame around the die cut and layering it up on a pop of colored card stock. Since Yupo is a slick paper, I used some Micro Glue Dots® to attach my diecut to the card. Some Pop Up Glue Dots® between paper layers help add some dimension to the card.

Have you tried out this technique yet? I'd love to hear how you used you Copics with Yupo Paper.

Yupo Alcohol Ink Card

This is a personal blog. All editorial content and projects are intellectual property of Taylor Stamped. I do receive financial compensation and material product from  A Walk Down Memory Lane to develop my craft posts, but all ideas and opinions are my own. Some links are affiliate links.
After seeing the card Lisa over at A Walk Down Memory Lane made with Yupo Alcohol Ink paper, I knew I had to try the stuff out...right away! Here's my first attempt at a Yupo Alcohol ink card.

This paper is so cool! Yupo translucent alcohol ink paper is actually a plastic paper. Because it's not a traditional paper it reacts differently with alcohol ink. Creating fun backgrounds with Yupo paper and alcohol ink is so simple.

There are a few different ways you can use these 2 things together. For this background I simply dripped the alcohol ink right from the bottle onto the paper. Give it a minute or so to spread out and travel, then choose another color and drip some more. Keep dripping until your paper has as much coverage and color as you want.

For a little extra texture, I put some alcohol ink blending solution on a paint brush and flicked it at the paper when I was all done. This added a few "water spots" to the paper.

I used my We R Memory Keepers Evolution Advanced and the dies that come with the Evolution to create a little spot on the card for my greeting.

Yupo paper and alcohol ink makes a really simple and stunning background for a Mother's Day card, or any card! Have you tried out this cool paper yet?

Father's Day Cards

I can't believe it's June already, but that means it's time to start thinking about Father's Day. I've got my gifts, so now it's time for some Father's Day cards.

I wish you could see these in person. Therm O Web's Deco Foil is so pretty, and it just doesn't come across right in photos. For these cards I used the ocean blue foil. It's really striking in person, and looks great on those big, bold stripes.

I chose Avery Elle's The Man stamp set for both cards. It has lots of fun options for Father's Day cards for both outside and inside the card.

I used blue foil on both cards, but decided to mix up the accent colors. I went with red for the card on the left and orange for the card on the right. It's a little different than my standard blue and green combo for man cards.

I kept my embellishments pretty clean and simple so the foiled paper could really shine (pun totally intended!).

Have you made you Father's Day cards yet? I'd love to see them.
Thanks for stopping by!

Thanks for Helping Me Shine - Teacher Thank You Cards

My kids just finished out the school year. I made two different sets of thank you cards for teachers and aides using We R Memory Keeper's dies and Embossing Folders. Today I'm sharing my Thanks for Helping Me Shine teacher thank you card set.

I knew I wanted to use the We R Memory Keeper's Gems dies. I also knew I wanted to go for a clean and simple look, so I decided to pair the diamond die from the Gems die set with the WRMK Next Level Embossing Folders.

I just want to note that these embossing folders are amazing! The dimension that you get from these is excellent, and there are different levels of dimension from the same folder, so the 3-D look of them is the best. I really haven't seen anything quite like these. I used a mix of folders from Geometric, and Gemstone.

I have found that you get the best, most defined results from heavier card stock, like the Stamp School Pop Tone card stock from A Walk Down Memory Lane. I cut my diamonds from American Crafts Glitter Paper to add some sparkle to the card. I recommend using a metal die cutting plate whenever you cut glitter paper. It gives you a much cleaner cut.

I printed my "Thanks for helping me shine!" from my computer using the same card stock I used on the cards.

I love how quickly this set went together. Each card is different, but made from the same basic components, so I was able to put them together faster. These clean and simple cards were a hit with the teachers. Will you be busy making teacher thank you cards this year?

December Card Class In a Box

December's Card Class in a Box is just about ready to go out  and I thought I share a look at the cards.
These are all the cards in the class:

Here's a close up of the cards I created for the class.

A Felt Wreath and a Christmas Card Photo

I feel like I've been posting a lot of projects here lately, so later this week I promise to post a few layouts. I'm a bit behind of photographing them, but I have a stack. I'll also post a few of the cards we'll be making at the class I'm teaching on Saturday at my Local Scrap Store (if you're in the NW Iowa area, you can still sign up by calling A Walk Down Memory Lane at 712-476-3443). Today, though, I have 2 more projects.

First up, I just got done taking the photo for my Christmas card this year.

I created the frame by finding an 11 x 13 frame that I liked (and got on sale for $5!). Then I covered the glass with chalkboard vinyl. I got it at A Walk Down Memory Lane for $1.99/yard, so for $9 I had the frame all made. Plus, I can always use the frame for something else in the future. I decided to make the frame a little more festive by adding a felt poinsettia to it. I just pieced together some Stamp School felt I cut with this die to make it. Oh, and here's my tip of the day, if you don't have the best handwriting (which I don't) ask a friend who has beautiful handwriting to do it for you!

The other project I have today is this wreath:

I needed something to hang on my front door when it wasn't a holiday, so I jumped on the yarn wreath bandwagon.

I post this with the disclaimer that there are literally thousands of these wreaths out there in the crafty world, so if this resembles one you've seen, and I didn't credit that person, my apologies. I just started wrapping and cutting, and this is what I came up with.
I had a skein of this pretty cream yarn left over from a knitting project, so I started with that as a base. Then I pulled all of the Stamp School felt I own and held it up to my door, and went from there. I decided to go with 1 big flower instead of  lots of little ones.

I used the same leaf die that I used above to cut the leaves. I used a large scallop circle die to cut the purple part of the flower, but went back with my scissors and squared out the edges and cut the petals down almost to the center. I finished of the flower by adding a couple of Maya Road stick pins into the center of the flower.

A Felt Ornament, 2 Hats, and a Layout

As the title suggests, today's post is filled with 4 random projects.

I like making ornaments from my scrappy supplies for my Christmas tree.  I thought it might be fun to make an ornament out of Stamp School felt. I used my Silhouette to cut my felt, but you could easily just print a pattern from paper and cut the felt by hand. I sewed 2 pieces of brown felt together and stuffed a little batting inside. The heart (also felt) is sewn on over where we live. These would be a fun keepsake ornament for someone who travels a lot or someone who just moved to a new state.

I've also been knitting a bit lately. I finished up a headband/neck warmer for myself and a hat for my son.

I found the pattern for my son's hat here. I forgot to get a picture of the top of the hat, but it has a square decrease pattern on top that is really professional looking and easy to make. It's knit in the round, and very easy to customize the stripes to your choosing. My son was especially excited to pick out the colors for his hat.  Both of our hats are made from a washable wool. You can find the pattern I used for my headband here.

Finally, my last picture is a layout, lest you think I abandoned paper crafting all together.

I recently took this photo out of a frame and decided to get it straight onto a scrapbook page. The paper and journaling tag are from Lily Bee's Persnickety collection. I love Lily Bee, but I always wish they'd do matching embellishments like layered stickers and fancy buttons. Alas, that is not to be, but the next best thing is that the embellishments from My Mind's Eye The Sweetest Thing collection go very well with Persnickety. While it's not a perfect match they did work out very well for me since I already had them on hand. Thanks for stopping by!

Let's Celebrate

It's been a little while since I've posted a card, so I figured why not break out something I haven't used for a long time - my watercolor pencils!  I embossed  watercolor paper with a lattice background stamp, then I colored stripes with my watercolor pencils, blending with water as I went. When I was done blending the color, I used a dry paper towel to wipe the color off of the embossed area.

I used Nestabilites dies to create a framed cut out. Inside the cutout, I stamped "Let's Celebrate" from Lawn Fawn's Sopihie's Sentiments (little side note, this was my first ever Lawn Fawn set, and it's still one of my favorites). I stamped it twice withouth re-inking to try in give it a soft, shadowed look to go along with teh soft background.
I stamped the pinwheels from Lawn Fawn's Cruising Through Life with Staz-on ink on watercolor paper. I used the same watercolor pencils to color in the pinwheels, then I cut the pinwheels out and added them to my card.
Just a quick little card I created, because the idea popped into my head!

Glue Dots DT Call and a Fiskars' Fuse Project

Just a quick announcement and then on to my mini album. Many of you know that I am a Glue Dots®  Dottess (this is what they call their design team members). I have been a Dottess for 2 years now and thoroughly enjoy it. It's time again for a new design team. You can find all of the call details here on the Glue Dots® blog.  If you love using Glue Dots® and like being the first to play with new products (the Dottesses got to play with the Micro, XL, and XXL Dots before they were released!) I encourage you to try out. It's a great group of people to work with.

Okay, on to my mini album. Have you heard all the talk about Fiskar's new Fuse system? Fiskars is holding a contest where you can actually win a Fuse (and who wouldn't want to win a Fuse, right?). You can check out all the details of the contest here, there's still a lot of time to enter. I created this circle mini album using the circle Fuse pieces from the contest.

This mini album tells the story of the Baptism gown that my aunt (my sister's Godmother) sewed for her Baptism. I then also wore the gown, and just a few months ago, my aunt's first granddaughter wore it at her Baptism. I sandwiched chipboard between all of the patterned paper to make the album nice and durable.

Here's what the front side looks like:

And how about some close ups since that picture is teeny tiny:

Here's the back side:

and some close ups of the back side:

The patterned paper I used was from Lily Bee's Victoria Park Collection. The felt is from Stamp School, and the Baptism themed stickers are from Reminisce.

August Release

It's time for Stamp School's August Release.

Here's a card I made with the new sets. Can you guess what this month's theme is?

As you well know, I'm a big fan of using kraft as a neutral color. I stamped this fun present multiple times and colored the presents in with Copic markers (If you haven't tried using your Copic markers on kraft, you should really give it a go. You'll love the results!).

So if you haven't guessed this month's release is all about birthdays.

Here are the 2 new stamps sets:

Birthday Icons

Birthday Sentiments

These sets will be available Wednesday, August 1.

You can check out some more amazing inspiration using these new sets on the other designers blogs:

Summer Fresh

You know how sometimes you see a new line and you just know that you can do pretty things with it, that it's going to be so much fun to work with, that you won't be able to get enough of it? Yeah, that's me with Simple Stories Summer Fresh. I really, truly just love this line.So far, I've made a 2 page layout, a single page layout, and banner. Today I'll share the layouts. You'll have to come back next week for the banner.
First up is the single page layout:

My favorite thing about this layout is the little cluster of details found here:

That little calendar piece with the twine and the pin and the rhinestone added to it just make me happy. I know, it's the little things, right?

Now on to the 2 page layout. I actually made this layout first. I was waiting for Summer Fresh to come out so that I could scrap these photos from Easter. Sometimes, I really like a paper line, but when I start to work with it I struggle and I just can't seem to put it together right. Summer Fresh is the exact opposite of that for me...it mixes and matches beautifully and I can't seem to get enough of it.

Okay, I know that picture's a bit tiny, so here are individual shots of the left side:

and right side:

In case you're wondering what we're doing, here's a close up on the journaling about Magic Jelly Beans (please note this is not my original idea, I read about it somewhere, and I really don't know where otherwise I'd absolutely give that person the credit for coming up with such a fun idea).

And, finally, I have to share one last photo of my favorite detail from this layout:

This bit of burlap with the twine and button is the last thing I added to the layout, and it just just made the whole thing feel complete.

Thanks for stopping by today. I'm quite behind on keeping up with blogging the current projects I have completed, but I'm trying to do better...really I am! In the mean time, I've been busy over at Stamp School,

so you can find a bright and cheery card with a Gelato video tutorial done by yours truly here.

You can find a a wedding card I created with a matching envelope here.

and you can find one last video tutorial on making this inky embossed background here.

Have a great weekend!
