Garden Layout

This is a bit of a different type of garden layout. When we were in Blarney, we checked out the fun poison garden, so of course I took some photos, and of course I had to scrap them.

Because I normally scrap my boys, I don't usually get to use a lot of floral prints. For a garden layout, however, the floral prints from Pebbles From Me to You were perfect!

I love the photo frames in this collection. I've used them from everything from mini albums to framing design elements. As you can see, here I used one for a journaling tag.

I added an extra chipboard flower sticker, and an enamel dot to make it pop even more.  

The right hand side of the layout are photos from the dungeon and caves below Blarney Castle. While not exactly garden photos, they went well enough with my Poison Garden photos from the other half of the page.

Stingray Beach

Back in July my husband had to work in Omaha (which is about 2 1/2 hrs from where we live).  The boys and I decided to tag along and spend the day at the Omaha Zoo while he worked (we a lot more fun then my husband that day).  The special exhibit at the zoo this summer was Stingray Beach. 

Stingray Beach is a huge pool full of stingrays. We got to touch/pet a ton of stingrays, and we even got to feed them.  It was definitely one of the highlights of our day. 

 For these photos I used paper and stickers from Echo Park's Capture Life.  I've loved this collection since it came out, but I was just waiting for the right photos.  The color and the feel of these photos were perfect for Capture Life. 

I literally walked away from from this day at the zoo with my kiddos telling them that it was one of the best days I'd had in a long time, and telling my husband what awesome kids we have.  Capture Life really captured the joy and fun of that day and made scrapbooking the photos so easy!

RAGBRAI Guests

Mid July we had a whole bunch of (75ish) cyclists camped overnight at our house and two of the neighbors' houses. It was the kick off to the big bike ride across Iowa.  I'm not crazy enough to bike across Iowa, but I am crazy enough to host lots of cyclists from the Chicago cycling club called CUBS...and it was a blast!  Here's a little 2 pager I did about our RAGBRAI Guests.

 I rarely forget I have paper (I have a pretty good system where I use my paper pretty soon after getting it if all goes well), but I totally forgot I had this paper!  It's Cut & Paste from My Mind's Eye.  It's a stunning collection, and the bike paper was perfect for what I was scrapping. I'm so glad I stumbled across it the other day!

We made signs and decorated our windows on the front and back of the house with window crayons welcoming the CUBS. We had a whole lot of tents in the back yard and bicycles in the front yard and garage!

 Did I mention the average age of the riders in the CUBS is something like 55?  Crazy, right?

 The boys especially loved checking out all of the cool bikes and accessories on the bikes (things like speakers, special water bottle holders, etc.).

Definitely an experience worth at least one scrapbook page!

Superhero Cake

I posted back at the beginning of May about my youngest's Superhero Training Camp Birthday Party.  Well, I'm finally getting around to scrapping some of those photos. Up first is one of my very favorite things about the party: the Superhero Cake. 

Every year I make my kids' birthday cakes.  I'm no cake artist, but I can usually find something I can do.  Finding something superhero was really tough, but I finally decided on the cake pictured above...except I can't draw, so I recruited my amazing husband to help.  I baked the cake (it was 3 multicolor layers which looked really cool when cut into), and frosted the sides.  Then my awesome husband went to work piping all of the superhero symbols on the cake freehand.  Yeah, freehand! 

We frosted it the night before my son's party, after he went to bed.  When he woke up and saw it completed, he actually gasped.  Happily, Pebbles Birthday Wishes collection landed on my doorstep about the same time as the party.  I love, love, love this collection.  I may have been audibly squealing as I unpacked the box of birthday goodness. 

Birthday Wishes is bright and fun. It's versatile enough for boys, girls, teenagers, and adults.  The patterned papers are so easy to mix and match, plus there are always the amazing embellishments that Pebbles does such a great job of.  I mean, just look at these matching Thickers:
