Snow Dog Layout

Our dog, Steve, loves the snow. He seriously can't get enough of it. Between the kids and the dog, it's super easy to see the joy in all that white stuff on the ground. Last week I had fun scrapping the kids in the snow, this week it's the dog's turn with this Snow Dog Layout.

Bo Bunny always does some of my favorite winter collections and this year's Whiteout by Bo Bunny is no different. It's full of rich blues and pops of brow, but what I love the most is the glitter! Every sheet of paper has gold glitter accents on it that make this collection oh so pretty.

Even though there's a lot of glitter to be had Whiteout, it's not at all a girly collection. The deep blues keep it really gender neutral.

I decided to play up the gold in this collection by adding some gold glitter Thickers to create my title. Since my photos are quite white (what with all the snow), adding a layer of deep blue card stock behind each photo helps to make the photos stand out a bit on the layout.

With the way the forecast looks, I'm guessing I'll have a few more opportunities to use Whiteout to scrap some winter fun. I'm sure by spring I'll be ready for some warm temps and sunshine, but for now I'm going to enjoy my snow dog and some cold weather fun.

Layout with A Lot of Journaling

Often I have layouts with a lot of photos and a little bit of journaling, but today I'm sharing a layout that's the opposite. Today, I'm sharing a layout with a lot of journaling and only one tiny photo. 

 I had a lot of story telling to do in this layout and only 1 small photo, and a bit of souvenir paper. I decided to use large journaling cards from Simple Stories Gold Snap Pack as focal points (as well as give myself plenty of space to tell my story).

I mixed and matched papers from Crate Paper, Ken Oliver, and Bo Bunny that I felt lent themselves not only to the feel of the photo, but the feel of the stories I was telling in my journaling. 

Usually I'm careful to keep my photos the focal point of my layouts, so it was kind of fun to do something different and make my journaling the focal point. How have you dealt with a lot of journaling on a layout? 

Zoo Layouts

Every summer we try to get in a trip to the Omaha Zoo. It's about 3 hours from where we live, so it's not too far, and it's a really amazing zoo. Today I have three zoo layouts from that trip to share.

A trip to the zoo was, of course, the perfect reason to use the newest zoo collection at A Walk Down Memory Lane, Safari by Bo Bunny. Safari has a lot of distressing built right into the paper, so I tried to work with the pre-printed distressing and texture as much as possible.

 There are lots of deep earthy tones in this collection, so I tried to keep things light by playing off of the cream colors in the paper, and by matting my photos with light colors.

Mix and Match Layout

Hello! Today I'm sharing a mix and match layout from our Ireland trip. Today's subject is the English Market in Cork. I often stick with the same paper collection when working on layouts, but sometimes that just doesn't work. This English Market layout was one of those times, so I just had to mix and match my papers for myself.

I fell in love with the feel of that blue striped paper for these photos. It's from Bo Bunny Sweet Life collection. I also thought the light blue piece of paper from Sweet Life would work (the one framing the 3 photos and journaling card in the center). The rest of the paper in the collection, while gorgeous, just wasn't right for the feel I was going for with the layout.

So...I went searching the paper racks at A Walk Down Memory Lane for some paper to use with my original picks, and I landed on Bo Bunny Modern Miss. I not only found that fun triangle paper, but also the paper I used to journal on.

I dug into my stash at home for embellishments. I used some enamel dots, Pink Paislee Solstice Ephemera, and Heidi Swapp Mink Jumbo Words (enjoy) covered in Therm O Web Rose Gold Deco Foil. I really, really love that Deco Foil from Therm O Web.

Mixing and matching my papers collections and embellishemts ended up working out pretty well for this layout!

Come, Let Us Adore Him!

I love Christmas, and I love decorating for Christmas. I really enjoy making pieces that keep the focus on where it needs to be this time of year. Today I'd like to share a home decor piece that I just finished.  Here's my Come, Let Us Adore Him! decor:

I started with Jillibean Soup's Mix the Media 10 x 10 wood plank. Truthfully, I didn't know what I was going to do with it when I bought it, but I came up with this idea really quickly!

I started by cutting the nativity scene from Bo Bunny's Double Dot paper with my Silhouette Cameo.  The cutting was easy, deciding how to adhere my paper to the wood was the tough part. I'm not a big fan of liquid glue. I tend to have issues with the paper warping or wrinkling, even if I use a really thin layer. I finally settled on running the paper through my Xyron Creative Station. So far, it's holding really well, and using the 5" creative station to add adhesive to the back of the paper went really, really quick!

I created the words from a font that I could weld together in the Silhouette software.  I didn't want to have to place each and every letter separately, so finding a font that looked good welded was a must for this project. After adding the papercut outs to the wood, I decided it needed just a little something more, so I sponged on a few stars with a stencil and some white ink (white paint would have worked well, too).

Aquarium Fun Layout

Last week I got to go along on my son's field trip with him.  We went to the local butterfly house, which also has an aquarium.  I created this 2 page Aquarium Fun Layout about the aquarium section of the field trip.

We just got Bo Bunny Double Dot, Wild Card, and Souvenir in at A Walk Down Memory Lane, and some how I managed to use all three collections on this layout.  Truth be told, you'll probably see Double Dot showing up a lot, since it comes in an array of beautiful colors.  I love a simple, all over pattern for the bases of my layouts, and Double Dot definitely fits the bill.

Something else you'll be seeing pop up a lot in my layouts? The Simple Stories Insta Clear Stickers.   You get a ton of them in 1 pack, and they have both black and white stickers in the same pack, so there always seems to be just the right sticker in there. 

Finally, I have to talk about how much I love these alphas.  I love them so much I have them in both gold and silver.  They're so stinkin' fun!

Grandma's Recipe Album

Now that Christmas is over and this gift has been given, I can share one of my very favorite projects from this holiday season. When my grandmother passed away, my dad copied all the recipes we wanted he to from her recipe box.  For a Christmas gift to one of my family members, I complied Grandma's recipes in an album.   

I started with a Simple Stories Snap Binder.  I like these because they are so very customizable.  As you can see, I set out right away to paper over the cover with some Dear Lizzy Polka Dot Party paper and Crate Paper stickers. 

Inside, I used the included chipboard dividers to split the recipe book up into your standard sections.

I really liked the look of Bo Bunny's The Avenue Recipe Cards, so I chose to use those.  As you can see from the photo above, there are the traditional 4 x 6 recipe cards, and larger, full page recipe cards.

While I wrote most of the recipes onto the Bo Bunny cards, I did copy and print a few of the cards that my Grandma had hand written onto patterned paper and added them to the album that way.  Having a recipe or two in her own writing just feels extra special. 

There's a section for Main Dishes.

and one for desserts.

I included photos of some of the prepared foods from the recipes.  It was a nice way to add some color to the album.

The last section in the album is for memories.  Not standard in most cook books, but fitting for this one.

In this section I left a little card with one of my favorite memories of cooking with my grandma.  I also put in lots of blank cards so the recipient can add her own memories and collect memories from other family members.
To be honest, I kind of wanted to keep this gift for myself.  I love how it turned out, so I guess I'll be making another one for me in the near future!

Powder Mountain

Just a quick winter layout today using Bo Bunny's Powder Mountain. It's a really fun, bright winter line.

It's just a simple layout, done to fit as many photos on as possible. I had so many great ones from this fun fort building and snow fight we had.

 I punched out some Pow! Glitter Paper with my Martha Stewart Snowflake Punch to create the glittery falling snowflakes.

I decided the layout needed a pit more pizzazz, so I added rhinestones to the centers of all of the snowflakes in the background paper.

Snow Days

Just a quick winter layout today.

This layout uses the beautiful Snow Days Line from Bo Bunny. I really love the soft colors in this winter line, and of course, the embellishments are so fun to work with (Bo Bunny always has fantastic embellishments!).

You and Teddy

I have a table full of framed photos that my kids take annually right around their birthdays. There are always the most recent ones up, but I also keep up a number of my favorites as well. There's no rhyme or reason to the ones I keep up longer, just a few of my faves. Eventually, though, when old ones finally get switched out, they must get scrapped. This is one of those photos, taken when my now 5 yr old was 3.

My son used to take his stuffed bear, Teddy, everywhere and the photographer thought it would be fun to snap a few photos with the 2 of them together (he still sleeps with Teddy by the way). I'm not sure anything captures childhood quite like a kid and his favorite stuffed animal!

A few notes about the actual making of this layout. The papers and stickers are all left over from some calendar projects I made back in December. You can check them out here if you'd like to see them. All of the paper and the stickers are from Simple Stories' Year-O-Graphy collection. That heart is actually an intricate knot made from twine. I learned how to tie it from this video. It was really fun to do, and a different way to add some texture to the layout. The buttons are from Bo Bunny's Forever Fall and Snowfall lines.

The 2nd Snow

Well, in honor of only the 2nd "real" snow we've received so far this winter (and for where I live, it's crazy not to be covered in snow all winter), I thought I'd share my Bo Bunny Snowfall layout of the first snow from this season.

My boys couldn't wait to get out and "help" Dad shovel. About 1/2 of the papers in Snowfall are glittered, so I chose just a few of those to highlight the page. The line has a bit of an antiqued feel to it, so I inked all of the edges of my papers to help the all meld together. I even inked the edges of the Thickers I used for the title.

This Week

I always love this time of year. I especially love that I get to see my husband more. With Thanksgiving and Christmas, he takes a few days off, and I truly appreciate having him around the house. I'm busy cooking and baking this week, and on either Friday or Saturday we put out all the Christmas decorations. Here's a new one I made this year to add to the stash:

I've steadily been making my way through my Echo Park Season's Greetings Colletion Kit. It's amazing how many projects I have been able to create with this kit and I still have more of it left (right now the count is at 2 home decor projects, 2 Christmas ornaments, 4 Christmas cards, and 1 layout). For extra embellishments I used some May Arts ribbon, Bo Bunny Blitzen Brads, Bo Bunny Blitzen Buttons, and Hero Arts Dots.
I wanted to use this frame to tell the Christmas Story so the text portions are Bible verses that start with Isaiah and end with the Wise Men kneeling before their King.
A few notes about the measurements. The frame size is 11" x 14". I chose that size because I wanted something larger, however I didn't think it through completely. I got home and realized I don't have background paper large enough for that size frame. I realized that I did have kraft wrapping paper somewhere in my house, so I trimmed a piece of that down to 11" x 14", and it worked out just fine. Each individual square is 2.5" x 2.5".

Lovely Pumpkins

These are photos from way back at the end of September. We had a gorgeous, warm fall day out at the pumpkin patch. This layout focuses on my oldest son's choice of pumpkin. I have to admit, fall is definitely one of may favorite seasons for taking photos.

I fell in love with this paper from Lily Bee when it came into A Walk Down Memory Lane. Since I have a lot of pumpkin patch photos this year and I've already created fall layouts with the fall lines from Jillibean, Bella Blvd, and Bo Bunny, I thought Id try my hand at turning this somewhat frilly line into a boyish pumpkin patch layout.

After a bit of paper layering, some of my favorite border punches, and a few buttons and brads, I came up with a layout I'm pretty happy with.
