4th of July Star Decoration

I created this star door hanger for my front door last year. The tutorial got posted over on Glue Dots® website, but I realized I never posted it here. So, in case you'd like a little decoration for the 4th of July, here is the tutorial (late, but better than never!): 

   

       

Supplies:

 Glue Dots® 

5 - 3" x 12" strips of paper from Pebble's Inc.'s Let Freedom Ring Collection 

Ribbon (optional)

Center Decoration (Optional) - My center decoration was created from the medallion tutorial found here and Pebbles Inc Let Freedom Ring Dimensional Stickers. 

Cut 5 - 3" x 12" strips of paper.

              

Fold according to photo. Keep fold in place using Glue Dots Lines®

Repeat fold 4 times for a total of 5 pieces.

                      

Use Glue Dots® to layer pieces into a star shape.
          

Add ribbon to the back side to use as a hanger.

Decorate the center with ribbon, paper, or the medallion shown in the tutorial here.  

**Other Options - use smaller strips (1" or 1 1/2" x 5") to create smaller stars for garland, cupcake picks, or napkin ring decorations. 

May Arts Nautical Challenge

Every few months May Arts host a challenge. There's always a theme (this time it was nautical) and a group of ribbons to choose from to create something.  I got to play along this month, and here's what I came up with:

 I created a nautical summer serving tray to use outside during backyard BBQ's.  My favorite element is the red and white anchor that I cut from Solid Stripes 365-2-14 ribbon. There was no solid bottom to the tray, so I cut a piece of cardboard the size of the bottom, covered it in Fancy Pants Down By the Shore paper and added ribbon details. I set the paper and thin ribbon with a spray on polyurethane sealer so the bottom of tray will be water resistant and I can wipe it clean with a damp cloth if needed.

Minions

We're pretty excited to see Despicable Me 2 this summer.  In anticipation of the movie I knit Minions for my boys. Meet Dave and Phil.

I found this great Minion knitting pattern here. I've never knit 3-d creatures before, but they were really quite easy to do, and they turned out so cute.  My kids loved them too, and took them along on our recent weekend getaway. 

I created a simple layout from Simple Stories Urban Traveler.  Urban Traveler is a great travel themed line that works for small weekend getaways and big vacations alike.

End of the School Year and Summer Fun

Ah summer, that time when I take a ton of pictures, only get a few of the scrapped because I'm having too much fun playing, and get even less of them posted to my blog!  I hope you're having a really fun summer so far. For this layout I broke out Carta Bella's Beach Boardwalk.  This is a really bright, fun, sophisticated summer line.

I just went with the natural lines of the paper, layered up a photo and added some stitching. It's a pretty simple layout, but I love how it turned out.

I'm also still working on getting the end of the school year photos scrapped.  I picked up a lot of My Mind's Eye's Collectable collection when it came into AWDML.  What can I say, I love MME. They always remember to do plenty of masculine papers and embellishments when they put out a collection and Collectable is no exception. 

 See! Such great colors for scrapping anything...especially my boys.
